I am a bright, high energy two-year old boy who thought I?d come to my furever home last June, but my owners, who are retired, have found that they can?t keep up with me. Since I?ve been with them I?ve become completely house trained and I?ll potty on leash. I?ve also learned to sit and wait before eating or going outside. They took me to obedience classes last summer and my trainer said that I?m the brightest dog she?s met, but my owners haven?t been able to get me to walk on leash without propelling them in the direction that I want to go. I have a good time chasing my older sister, but sometimes I get sort of rough and bump into her too hard. She and I get along great and we like to take naps together. I have a high pitched baying sound which is a little different from the usual Beagle bay. When I?m on the trail of a rabbit my jowls quiver with excitement and I run lightening fast. I?d like to run more than my keepers are able to let me; if I could find a home with a really big yard, I?d keep it free of rabbits and squirrels. I love to dig, in search of prey, and my owners have taught me to put up with a Paw Check whenever I come inside after digging. I have a lot of energy inside, too. I love to chew on things and if I don?t have chew toys I?m likely to find a shoe or cushion or couch edge to chew. When my owners are gone, they put me in my crate, which I?m happy to go into, as long as they give me a good treat. I sleep all night in my crate, too. Sometimes they put me in the crate when they have guests. When I?m released, I go crazy with happiness, shrieking my pleasure at being out of the kennel. When my owners need for me to be less boisterous, they put my Thunder Coat on me, which tones my energy down several notches. There are some people whom I don?t like and I tell them by barking at them. It?s my job to alert, in my best high pitched bark, when someone walks by outside, when the mailman comes to the door, and especially when the door bell rings. When my owners? two year old granddaughter visited recently, I barked at her and frightened her and her mom. I didn?t growl or bite, but I let her know that she was in my space. I haven?t had the chance to play with older kids, so my owners don?t know how I?d get along with them. I?ve never liked going in the car and have to be lifted in when it?s really necessary. When I?m in the car I drool a lot so I need a towel nearby; once I even vomited my breakfast in the car. As I said, I?m smart and have learned to respond to Wait, Sit, Down, Go, Leave It and Come. My owners use a high pitched whistle to tell me when they want me to come from the yard and I always get a treat for coming so promptly. I have several special dog toys that will come with me, as well as my comfy Orvis pillow with my name, my crate, pad, blankie, my Thunder Coat and many different kinds of harnesses that they?ve tried on me. As you may have noticed in my pictures, I?m a rather handsome fellow with very intelligent eyes. I?m adorable and loving and, as my trainer said, able to learn lots of good tricks.
